..Ive been having a really bad week and this ..i just cant.
For those who dont know i take icon paypal or pointcomissions at deviantart. Yes i get actual real money for them sometimes. ..Long story short:
I comissioned an icon for someone from deviantart staff.. It seems someone from the staff liked the icon i made and decided to made “his own versions” of my icons for himself and his friends.
Of course using/editing/recoloring/doing alterations another persons work without her permittion to make custom versions is called ART THIEF.
So i did what i always do with thiefs and reported the guy. BUT.. my reports were invalid. I got told by 5 mods that i was exagerating, lying, making up information. trying to incriminate that honest mod.. that i should feel HONORED that the guy used my works as inspiration to makes his.. and they pretty much ignored me.
That was last year.. I never said a think on public because everybody told me i was wrong bla bla bla.. so i just decided to let it go.
So many months later im watching on my front page my stolen icon.. displayed by a member who just won an honorable mencion for being such an honest and awersome person..
Its like being slapped in the face again.. -thats it im posting all my rant-shit up-
Seriously.. just look at the over layers! The comparissons! AM I REALLY MAKING THIS UP?? (DA Staff said i was) They told me “ITS NOT A COPY! HE MADE HIS ICON WITHOUT USING YOURS!”

1) You did not seem so adamant about fighting them. I’ve seen both your dA pages; you make no mention. That just shows me that, by coming to tumblr to complain, you are not really willing to stand up against them and fight. Some people have done such things and were successful. I cannot pity you if you do not do such things.
2) Shuttermonkey moderator can easily use the Creative Commons license against you, which entails that so long as they are not making money from your work, they are free to utilise it. In dA’s main Creative Commons license, the licensor isn’t obligated to return the progenitor of the work. You also did not possess a true copyright on it, thus anyone can do the same and “get away with it”—although morally incorrect, it cannot be stopped by law. Your show of not speaking up at dA only fuels this.
I pity your plight, I truly do; it’s unfair that you’ve worked so hard on a piece of work and been given money for your toil, to have it copied openly so, but this is reality. This is also the world of art, sometimes. It is competitive and unfair.)

I had school and 1 full time job at the time, so it was really hard for me to fight over the internet at the time. I did whatever i could at the time :/ plus back then i really trusted the whole “send a report, dont fight the art thief directly” ..and its staff members we are talking about.. back then i really though it was all a big confusion that could be fixed with 1 report.
After my report was invalid, i contacted several diferent members of the staff for help/advise. Using notes, emails and other.. and they all told me the same thing :

The person who did the alterations even said i was manipulating the information i was giving the staff. It seems he told the staff that he made his icons from scratch.. and his word was pretty much worth more than all my screenshots,overlayers, color proofs, and all.. (later on it seems he added my name on the stolen icon so he could keep it up since he was giving “reference” even though i asked him directly to take it down.)
I know its really late now.. but like i said before back then i was dealing with work+school+other so i had to just let it go.. The reason im finally saying it out loud now is cause its on the front page of DA.. (i kinda have to visit DA a lot because of the groups i run/help and commissions) so it feels like a really awful reminder to see it again.
I know i wont change anything now, but im taking a weight off my back by finally saying outloud my opinion on what really happened.. even if only 2 or 3 ready it and share the same opinion with me , its enough for me. (also excuse my messy english)
I cannot believe the kind of bullshittery happening here.
First of all, for this to not constitute as enough for a permanent-ban, removal or the artwork, a warning and OF COURSE HIS REMOVAL FROM THE dA STAFF is absolutely ludicrous.
I mean, the fact that it’s even happening WITH THE STAFF is absolutely disgusting. To think this site is trying to pass off as nurturing to artists, ugh…
AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF, THIS ‘ARTIST’ and STAFF MEMBER WAS AWARDED FOR HIS ‘CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY’ I could vomit right now.
And of course, there’s people on tumblr taking the person’s side. Are you pissing on my face right now?
First you’re told not to act irrationally towards the situation and to try to fix it behind the scenes.
Now you can’t be supported BECAUSE you didn’t make a scene. Please. Don’t try to justify this. Saying it’s ‘just how it is’ No. Clearly people have the power to change things and it’s people like that who hold artists back and allow thousands of dollars to be stolen from hardworking artists worldwide.
Anyways, signal boosting my friend. dA will be hearing from me. I hope others will help out. Maybe if enough people bring it up his stolen art will be removed.
Not surprised— they’ve got a track record of favoring the thieves over the artist. I’ve been banned for calling out art thieves before they just -added- the rule that you can’t fight it on your own, and this shit is why I’ve never been enticed to participate in their so-called “community.” Punishing the people who create awesome content, and essentially make their site popular/desirable to visit?! WTF.
